Bay Area Sevathon Serves Up Community Service and Fun

On June 26, 2016, Pratham supporters hit downtown San, Jose for a day of fitness and fun at Guadalupe River Park for the India Community Center’s eighth annual Sevathon. Aiming to be the largest social and service platform of its kind in the Bay Area, Sevathon 2016 brought together more than 5,000 runners, walkers and yoga enthusiasts who raised funds for more than 100 nonprofits.

“We are delighted to see so many people coming out to support the causes they care about,” remarked AGK Karunakaran, president of Pratham’s SF Bay Area chapter and a member of the India Community Center board. “Sevathon encourages a spirit of giving and is a chance to make a personal connection with the people behind the charities as well as like-minded community members.”

The day featured a 5K, 10K, half marathon and a yogathon of Surya Namaskar (sun salutation). Participants enjoyed live music performances, food and activity booths sponsored by participating charities.
