India’s Minister of State for Finance Returns to Boston

On March 18, 2015, India’s Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha met with 60 Pratham supporters in a discussion about contemporary India. The evening was hosted by Vikrant Raina and Pratima Abichandani, board members of the Boston chapter, at the Brae Burn Country Club in Newton, MA.

Sinha, who started his professional career in Boston with McKinsey, animatedly spoke about his journey from Chestnut Hill to Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, explaining that the most challenging part of his campaign was changing gears from a US investor to an Indian politician who had to address 75,000 people in Hindi beside one of the world’s best orators, Narendra Modi.

In his ministerial role, Sinha is a key member of the team responsible for defining India’s economic agenda with the goal “to move from a mindset of entitlement to a mindset of empowerment.”

He cited Pratham as an award-winning example of how game-changing innovative methods can create extraordinary impact. The Indian government aims to create a globally competitive economy that is innovation-driven in the social and private sector.
