Pratham Readathon

Read for fun with a purpose!

Pratham USA’s Readathon isn’t just a fun summer activity, it’s an opportunity for kids to make a real difference while developing a love for reading and a deeper awareness of the educational needs of their peers in India – children like them, who despite sharing a universal desire for learning, often face vastly different circumstances. Since 2012, hundreds of children and young people have participated in the Readathon each year, and their families and friends have supported them by donating.

What’s it all about? Readathon encourages kids to read books while raising awareness and funds for Pratham. By getting pledges for every book they read, kids can help support their peers in India access critical learning and education opportunities.

Why support Pratham this year? After extended lockdowns and school closures, many children in India have returned to the classroom without the necessary fundamental skills. The funds raised by the Pratham USA Readathon will provide much-needed support to children in India, giving them an opportunity to improve their learning and stem pandemic-related learning losses.

Who can participate? We invite children and youths aged 4-18 to take part in the Readathon. Children who are too young to read by themselves can have a sibling, parent or grandparent read to them. Adults can get involved as mentors, donors and sponsors. Sponsorship is also open to businesses and institutions.

Why Readathon? Watch this video made by past participants to find out what the Readathon means to them and why they participated.
