According to the World Bank, 70% of 10-year-olds in low- and middle-income countries can’t understand simple text. At Pratham, we see this firsthand—many fifth graders are struggling to understand letters and numbers. As these children grow into young adults, they are often left behind. But there is a solution.
Pratham partners with governments and communities to help preschoolers leap forward in their education and primary school children catch up with foundational reading and math skills.
Pratham’s innovations have been adapted in more than 30 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Over 4 million children worldwide benefited from Pratham’s foundational learning innovations (especially the Teaching at the Right Level program) in 2025-2026. Cumulatively, these innovations have reached over 10 million children around the globe since 2019.
