Chicago Colleges Show Their Pratham Pride
Students from the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) and the University of Chicago are doing their part to raise awareness of Pratham’s work.
Delta Phi Omega selected Pratham’s Second Chance program as its national charity for 2015. Former Chicago Chapter President Dr. Raj Rajaram visited the sorority’s UIC chapter to talk about the program, which provides access to secondary education for female dropouts in India. Many Indian girls are forced to leave school due to socio-economic circumstances; this greatly reduces their chance of escaping the vicious cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
Watch this video about the problem and see how Pratham gives girls a second chance to complete their secondary school education:
In addition, Pratham was the beneficiary of the University of Chicago’s South Asian Students Association cultural show, which celebrates Indian culture. The show raised $1,000 to support our flagship literacy program, Read India.
