Phoenix Kids Win During Annual Readathon

This year’s Readathon included several matching challenges, which helped us raise more than $150,000 toward Pratham’s programs that teach reading, writing and math to underserved children in India. Congratulations to our Phoenix readers for excelling in several challenges!

In the Tarsadia Foundation FREADOM EXPRESS Matching Challenge, 53 donors contributed over $7,000. Arjun Praveen Mosur led the young readers with $1,351.

“I plan to read 75 books,” said Arjun. “Reading books is going to help me learn about nature, wildlife, new cities, history, new words, how to build stuff, literature, science, the human body, chess and cars!”

Watch Arjun talk about James and the Giant Peach in this video, a winning entry in the Free to Read My Favorite Book Video Contest.

Phoenix readers sent in the highest number of entries for the Freadom of Expression Video Contest, winning $800, enough to educate 32 Indian children. Congratulations to Aadith M (best entry); Aadith M, Arjun M and Arjun N (first entries); and Leah K and Nandana A (best efforts).

Our chapter also won top honors in the Readathon’s Free to Read Matching Challenge. Thank you to all our young readers and generous supporters! If you’d like to get involved with the Readathon, please contact us at readathon@prathamusa.org
