Readathon Kids Highlight 2015 DFW Gala

Close to 300 guests celebrated Pratham’s 20th anniversary at the Dallas-Fort Worth Gala on September 19, 2015. Sponsors, supporters and volunteers filled the Marriott at Legacy Town Center with laughter, music and, most importantly, hope.

Keynote speaker Azeez Gupta, director of Pratham’s vocational training program, moved the audience with an impassioned speech, and comic Dan Nainan had guests laughing uncontrollably. But the night belonged to the kids of the Dallas Fort-Worth chapter as they astounded the audience with their Readathon efforts, which raised $25,000 to help children in India learn to read and write.

Four girls—Isha, Saiesha, Sonali and Soumya—took turns at the microphone to share heart-warming stories, from their visits to Pratham sites, where they met kids who don’t even know their own age, to juggling their Readathon efforts with schoolwork and other extracurricular activities. After thanking national Readathon co-chairs Yogi Patel and Vineeta Salvi for all their efforts, Soumya reminded the audience that, through Pratham, $25 can educate a child for an entire year.

We thank all our supporters for furthering our efforts to improve the quality of education for underprivileged children and youth across India.
